Steve’s journey began at a young age when he discovered his love for creating staircases. Growing up in Scarborough, he craved the tranquility of rural life and relocated to the Kawarthas as a teenager. There, he landed a job at The Oaken Door, a bustling local stair and flooring company, where he first immersed himself in the craft of building stairs and installing floors. With no car, Steve’s tenacity shone through as he hitchhiked to work each day, a testament to his unwavering determination and proactive spirit.

Over the years, Steve mastered every facet of stair building—from precision measurements and intricate designs to navigating complex building codes. He spent more than 13 years refining his skills in Kawartha Lakes until The Oaken Door’s owner retired. Steve then joined R&A Stairs, a larger firm, where he spent 12 years constructing high-end staircases for luxury homes in Newmarket. His extensive experience enabled him to craft everything from sturdy basement stairs to breathtaking, elaborate showpieces that transform any space.

Beyond his roles at these companies, Steve has spent the last 15 years taking on independent projects, driven by an entrepreneurial zeal that pushes him to innovate and excel. These side jobs allowed him to experiment with fresh designs, sharpen his techniques, and build lasting relationships with clients who value his meticulous attention to detail and steadfast commitment to quality.

Now, Steve is thrilled to launch Wooden Heights, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for woodworking back to Kawartha Lakes and the surrounding areas. Based locally, he’s relieved to leave behind the grueling 3-hour daily commute, freeing up more time and energy to devote to each project and to be readily available for his clients.
